Terry was raised in the New York City area. He received an undergraduate degree in international affairs from George Washington University in 1982 and a law degree from the University of Denver in 1986.

After law school, Terry represented architects and engineers, as well as large developers and homebuilders, in numerous lawsuits involving multimillion-dollar residential and commercial projects. After spending several years representing a variety of private trade associations, including large housing and pharmaceutical interests, Terry joined the Denver office of Zurich Insurance Group, a global insurance company. While at Zurich, he served as litigation counsel on a variety of matters involving single-family and multi-unit residential projects.

In 2002, Terry and Darrell Damschen formed Murray & Damschen, P.C. in Lakewood, Colorado. Terry has represented hundreds of homeowners in construction defect lawsuits and arbitrations involving structural, building envelope and mold-related damage. He has handled hundreds of structural warranty claims on behalf of Colorado homeowners. Terry has also represented many property purchasers in nondisclosure disputes involving structural, moisture intrusion and other issues. In addition to his construction-related practice, Terry has represented many clients in a wide variety of business and insurance-related matters.
